A koala's cecum (the arm of the large intestine opposite the colon) is much longer than a coyote's, an adaptation for processing of fibrous, protein-poor eucalyptus leaves.

The koala's 2 m-long cecum functions as a fermentation chamber where symbiotic bacteria digest the leabes.
